Should I call a Doctor? Warning Signs

A mother's intuition is a real thing. If there's ever a time during pregnancy that you just don't feel right, it's a good idea to check with your doctor. Below is a list of symptoms that can occur during pregnancy that are signs that something may be wrong. If you experience any of the following, contact your doctor.

  1. Bleeding or Spotting - If you experience any bleeding or spotting (small drops of blood) during pregnancy then it's a good idea to contact your doctor.
  2. Severe, Lasting Abdominal Pain - Sporadic aches and pains are normal during pregnancy, but if a pain becomes severe and doesn't diminish in a short time then this could be a sign that something isn't quite right.
  3. Persistent Back Pain - Having an achy back can also be a common symptom because of the extra baby weight, but if this pain becomes severe and constant then a doctor visit is a good idea.
  4. Severe Nausea and Vomiting - Some women experience extreme morning sickness during pregnancy, but if it gets really bad then definitely consult your doctor. Something else might be wrong.
  5. Pain or Burning with Urination - This could be a sign of infection. Check with your doctor if you get any pain during urination.
  6. Swelling of the Hands or Face - Some swelling and puffiness is normal, but if it becomes uncomfortable it could be a sign that there's something more then just pregnancy symptoms going on.
  7. Fever over 100ยบ F - Fever is never a good sign. If your temperature spikes over 100 then it's time to see the doctor.
  8. Extreme Changes in Baby's Movements - If your baby stops moving for a long period of time or your baby's movements really slow then you might want to schedule a check up. Also, if your baby begins to move excessively, for long periods of time, you should see a doctor as well.
  9. Severe Headache - If your head suddenly hurts a lot, then you might want to visit the doctor.
  10. Early Contractions - Most pregnant women experience Braxton Hicks contractions that are a preview of the real thing. BH contractions aren't really painful and don't last long. If you get strong contractions, that are painful and are lasting a little too long, then consult your doctor right away.
