Treatments for Cradle Cap
You're probably thinking... what is cradle cap? Well, it's a medical condition referring to flaky and scaly skin on a baby's scalp. There are many varying degrees of this condition, but if your baby has it then there are things you can do. Below, you'll discover some ways to ease the symptoms of cradle cap.
- Wash Baby's Scalp - Use a gentle baby soap to wash your baby's scalp regularly. Make sure to use a soft washcloth.
- Gently Remove Flakes - Rub the dry, flaky area with a soft washcloth or soft brush to get some of the flakes off. Don't rub too hard or you'll irritate your baby's scalp.
- Use Baby-Safe Oil - Rub your baby's cradle cap spot with baby oil, mineral oil or even olive oil to loosen up the flakes, then wipe with a soft washcloth, then wash again with a gentle shampoo to wash off the oil.
- Try Vaseline - Sometimes Vaseline has been known to help loosen the flakes, so you can rub them off with a washcloth. Only do this on babies without hair.
- See Doctor if Severe - If your baby's cradle cap spreads or gets really bad then your Pediatrician may prescribe some medications to help ease the condition.
