Diaper Rash Remedies & Prevention

Let's face it. Changing diapers is never fun, but it's important to do it right to keep your baby's toosh from breaking out in a rash. Sometimes, no matter how talented you are at diapering, your baby will get red bumps anyway. Below are some helpful tips on how to prevent or get rid of diaper rash.

  1. Prevention: Change Poop Diapers Fast - Never let your baby sit in a poopy diaper for too long. Make sure that once you smell it you change it.
  2. Prevention: Wash Baby's Hind End with Warm Water - Use a soft wash cloth and warm water to wash your baby's hind end after a diaper change. If using baby wipes, make sure to get ones that are scent free if your baby has sensitive skin.
  3. Prevention: Let Baby's Buttocks Air Dry - Hang out a few minutes as your baby's hiney air dries after a diaper change.
  4. Prevention: Adjust Baby's Diaper Sizes - As your baby grows make sure to get bigger sized diapers so his or her diapers aren't too tight.
  5. Prevention: Do Diaper Free Nap Time - Allow your baby to take a nap without a diaper on, but definitely put an open diaper below to prevent your little one from wetting the sheets.
  6. Remedy: Diaper Rash Ointments - Wipe Zinc Oxide ointment on your baby's buttocks to keep your baby's skin from getting too moist and to allow the rash to dry up and go away.
  7. Remedy: No Soap at Bath Time - Avoid using any soap at bath time because soaps can irritate the rash and make it worse. Use only warm water when cleaning your baby if a rash is present.
  8. Remedy: Keep Baby's Hind End Dry - Make sure to always keep baby's hind end completely dry after diaper changes. This will help the rash heal.
  9. Remedy: Change Baby's Diaper Often - Make sure to change your baby's diaper every hour when a rash is present. Urine and stool can irritate the rash so you want to keep the area as clean as possible to let the diaper rash heal.
