How to Identify a Growth Spurt
Babies are just so adorable with their little hands, little feet and tiny toes. But your baby won't stay a delicate little cutie forever. All babies grow up! When babies go through growth spurts they sometimes show signs. These signs are important to know so you understand why your baby is doing them. Since babies don't talk, sometimes we have to just read the signs, and now you'll be able to do just that!
- Fussiness - Babies don't have to be growing to be fussy, but many times growing pains can cause them to get a bit agitated. If your baby is ever fussy and shows no other reasons why, then it could just be that he's gaining an inch to his height.
- Increased Appetite - Babies tend to eat more when they're going through a growth spurt.
- Cluster Feedings - This refers to when a baby wants to eat over and over again, one feeding after another.
- Weight Gain - Weight gain happens with a growth spurt and because of all the extra eating your baby's doing during the growing process.
- Waking Up At Odd Times Because of Hunger - If your baby suddenly starts waking up during the night, hungry, or waking during nap times crying for the bottle, then he's probably going through a growth spurt.
- Whimpering - If your baby seems to whine for no reason or whimpers short cries like he's in pain then he might have growing pains. Rule out all other possibilities before making this assumption if your baby really seems to be hurting.
- Baby Massage - Giving your baby gentle arm, leg and body massages during growth spurts can help to alleviate your little one's discomfort. Plus it's a great way to bond with your baby.
