Fun Tips on How to Bond with Your Baby
Your baby may not be able to do much yet, but you can still have fun together. There are many ways you can make your cutie pie giggle, smile and coo. Here are some of our top suggestions.
- Repeat After Baby - When your baby makes a sound, repeat that sound. Baby says,"Goo-Goo" You say, "Goo-Goo". Babies love to hear you repeat after them.
- Hold Baby Close - Always hold your baby during feedings. This will enhance your parent/baby bond and keep your baby feeling secure.
- Use Bright Baby Toys - Get baby toys that are black, white and red. These colors will stimulate your baby's senses more then other colors and keep your baby interested during play time.
- Peek-a-Boo - Play peek-a-boo using your hands or putting a blanket over your head and taking it off. Or, put a swaddle blanket on baby's head and let baby take it off. Say, "Where's Mommy?" This will teach your baby that you're his mommy while you're having lots of fun as well.
- Play With Squeaky Toys - Give your baby a toy that makes noise. Hold it in front of your baby and squeak the toy. Show your baby how to get the toy to make noise.
- Read Colorful Picture Books - Get your baby a picture book that has lots of bright, colorful pictures. Textured books are also great and will keep your baby entertained.
- Play with Colored Felt - Get several pieces of colorful felt, each a different color. Take one piece and role it up and tickle under your baby's chin. Then unroll the felt and let your baby feel it and say the color of the felt. Your baby will love being tickled and enjoy the texture of the felt pieces.
- How Big is Baby Game - Play the How Big is baby game. Say, "How big is (baby's name)?" then raise baby's hands above his head and say, "So Big!" Your baby will love this and want to do it over and over again.
- Dance - Hold your baby tight and dance around the room with slow or fast music. This is a wonderful way to bond with your child.
- Make Funny Faces - All babies love when mom or dad makes funny faces. Do this until your baby giggles, then do it again!
