Signs of Postpartum Depression
You've probably heard of the baby blues. This actually refers to a condition called Postpartum Depression, when a new mom's hormones get out of whack and cause her to feel a little down to extremely depressed. The symptoms vary from mom to mom. Not all new moms experience Postpartum Depression, but if you're feeling a little sad now that Baby is here then this could be the reason. Below are signs of this condition. If you're experiencing any of these symptoms it's important to tell your doctor and talk to your friends. Help is available.
- Sleepiness or Insomnia - All new moms have sleep issues because your schedule is now on "baby time". If you find yourself wide eyed and irritated many nights in a row, then this could be a sign that you could have postpartum issues.
- Resentment of Husband or Baby - If you discover that you're having severe resentment of your husband or baby then this is a sign that your hormones might be in overdrive.
- Living in La-La Land - If you have lost your zest for life and find that you're detached from reality more often then not, then this is a definite sign of hormone imbalance.
- Eating Habits Changed - If you find that your eating habits drastically change then this could be a sign that you're having the baby blues.
- Anxiety - If you find that motherhood is making you very anxious and you feel that you can't do anything right then your hormones might need an adjustment.
- Extreme Irritability - If your partner, baby or mother-in-law is making you extremely irritable, more so then usual, then you could be experiencing postpartum.
- Harmful Thoughts - If you're experiencing thoughts of suicide or thoughts of harming your baby then this is definitely a sign and you should contact your doctor immediately.
- Severe Feelings of Guilt - If you feel guilty for just about everything then this is a sign that your hormones are definitely raging.
- Out of Control Crying - If you feel like you're on the brink of tears at all hours of the day and night then this is a sure sign something isn't quite right.
