Getting Prepared for Baby's Arrival
Typical Pregnancy Discomforts
"OMG! I'm having a baby!" is probably the first thought you had when you saw the plus sign. Now what? Your body is going to go through a lot of changes and unfortunately that means you'll have some discomfort along the way. Don't worry, while you feel those aches you'll also be feeling your baby growing and moving inside you and you'll be too preoccupied with Junior to care about a few aches and pains. Here are a few common discomforts that most pregnant women must endure.
- Morning Sickness - Right from the start you might feel a little icky or a lot icky with queasiness, nausea or vomiting.
- Heartburn - Don't be alarmed if some of your favorite foods like spaghetti or pizza cause a burning sensation in your chest. This is common during pregnancy, unfortunately.
- Constipation - If you're a "regular" kind of gal, don't be shocked if you become a little irregular during pregnancy. Sometimes babies have a way of pressing on the bowels so your "movements" move a little slower.
- Hemorrhoids - If your hind end gets a little itchy then you might want to have the doc check you for hemorrhoids. These are swollen veins in the rectum area that get painful and annoying if not treated.
- Fatigue - Otherwise known as being tired. You may discover you have the urge to nap more frequently during your 9 months of pregnancy.
- Swelling or Fluid Retention - Your face might get a little rounder and your hands and feet a little puffy during your pregnancy. Swelling is normal and can be uncomfortable. If swelling gets excessive then see your Doctor.
- Nosebleeds or Stuffiness - You might need to keep a few more tissues around the house because pregnancy can cause you to get excess blood in the lining of your respiratory tract resulting in minor nasal issues.
- Back Aches - The baby's weight, alone, can cause your back to ache, but your pelvic joints will loosen when you get closer to delivery time and this can cause back pain as well.
- Dizziness - Don't get up or sit too quickly because that baby in your belly can cause you to get lower blood pressure, low sugar or low iron that can make you dizzy.
- Headaches - These can occur because of hormonal changes. Rest helps!
