Feeling Icky? Sooth That Morning Sickness
Unfortunately, morning sickness can sometimes be afternoon or nighttime sickness as well. You just never know when the "Toss Your Cookies Monster" will show up. The new hormones in your body are the culprit for those nauseous moments. Fortunately, there are some natural ways to combat those yucky feelings and ease your queasiness. If nothing seems to help then talk with your doctor. Here are a few suggestions.
- Eat Smaller Meals - Sometimes eating smaller meals, 5 times per day, can decrease your unsettled tummy, instead of just eating 3 large meals.
- Avoid Greasy or Fatty Foods - Sometimes grease and fats can increase those yucky morning sickness feelings. Stick with high carbs such as: bread and potatoes to soak up stomach acids to keep your tummy calm.
- Eat or Drink Ginger - Ginger is known to ease nausea. Try some ginger tea, ginger biscuits or ginger ale to keep your nausea to a minimum.
- Wear Sea Bands - These bands are known to press on key acupressure points that help eliminate nausea.
- Keep Crackers By the Bed - Keep some saltine crackers close by so when you start to feel icky you can eat one quick.
- Eat Peppermint - Peppermint is known to help ease nausea. You can get peppermint in many ways: peppermint candies, peppermint tea, smelling peppermint oils. You could keep peppermint oil on a handkerchief in your pocket and sniff it if you ever feel a little icky.
- Sniffing Lemons - Keep lemons close so if you ever feel ill you can take a whiff. The scent of lemons is known to help ease nausea.
- Drink Plenty of Fluids - Keep hydrated by drinking lots of fluids throughout the day. It's a good idea to drink sports drinks with electrolytes because if your electrolytes get low you'll experience loss of appetite which can increase your morning sickness.
- Eat More Protein - Lack of protein in your diet can definitely make you feel sick when you're pregnant. Eat more peanut butter, apples, almonds, nuts, cheese and crackers or cottage cheese and yogurt.
- Listen to Your Body - If something makes you queasy stay away from it.
